If you’re in the Vancouver (Canada) area and you were born any time between ‘97 to ‘93 and you’re an open and interested musician, give us a shout at thereprise@hotmail.ca and we can possibly set up a jam!

MUST HAVE: Gig ready gear and an open mind! And easy transportation to PoCo!

We have roughly 12-ish songs and are just finishing up our first EP but we’re really interested in a fourth member to really fill out our sound! You can check out our performances and demos here and our facebook page here! Cheers!

Today we celebrate the 50th birthday of one of the greatest bass players in existence.

Fender Artist Series Nate Mendel Precision Bass in Candy Apple Red.

what do you know about the Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz? isn't it basically a cheaper Jaco?

Hi!

Okay well from what I know, the VM and Jaco have different feels, sounds and materials, but in a nutshell, look the same. The visual differences are the fingerboards, knobs and headstock and at that aren’t too too different. I personally like the VM a decent deal more than the Mexi Fender fretless, I think it’s a fantastic bass and if I were to buy another fretless, that’s what I would get. As much as I love Jaco, I think it would make way more sense to get the MUCH cheaper VM and change the pickups if you really wanted to, but even at that, the pickups don’t really need changing, they’re fine pickups.

If you want a solid, reliable bass that looks like Jaco’s, go for the VM, it won’t disappoint, but if you have money to throw around or your in a Jaco tribute band or you want a really good fretless to record with, go with the Jaco.

Your Squier hatred it a little too broad. They're not merely "good starting basses". The Vintage Modified range is excellent, and the Jazz in particular can do things and reach tones that a lot of Fenders can't even dream of doing. In fact, I use my VM Jazz daily while my hideous broken-since-day-one Fender Precision hangs gloomily on my wall

Oh yeah, I know that, the Classic Vibe series is also phenomenal, probably better than most Mexi Fenders, along with the Artist series, which is comparable to most Mexi Fenders. In fact one of my main basses is a Squier. But I was talking about the Squier Mustang basses being crap compared to the Fender though, not Squier being crap in general. I understand your confusion, I’ll try to word what I say better next time.

And maybe you should take in your Precision Bass to get a refund, because obviously the manufacturers did something wrong, otherwise it wouldn’t be broken, those things are built like bricks. Unless you decided to go buy a Precision just to ruin it. Which I highly doubt is the case, because who would do such a thing?

Actually, I don’t understand why would would have bought such an expensive, “hideous” bass you don’t like in the first place…

Either way, I’m glad you have an appreciation for Squier instruments though, some people won’t even give them a chance. A friend of mine won’t even give Mexi Fenders a chance! Anyway, cheers to you and your VM Jazz bass, I hope to see you submit a picture of it!

Hello, I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Squier Mustang Bass? Is it very different from the Fender original?

Hi!

Well in my opinion, the Squier Mustang bass feels like crap, sounds like crap and plays like crap compared to the Fender, unless you’re a pick player :P I tried out both today and to me, the Fender felt and sounded tons better than the Squier. The Squiers are made of a lot cheaper materials and not much work is put into them at all. I think the Squier is a great starting bass, but nothing more. That being said, you could always do your own modifications to the Squier Mustang bass and make it comparable to the Fender and it still be less than half the price of the Fender.
